Scott Ream to present at the New Jersey Chapter of the PMI (Project Management Institute) on October 21st, 2003

Business Continuity (BC) is a proactive process that identifies and prioritizes the critical business functions and the likely threats to those functions. From this information, plans and procedures are developed through a regular program of personnel training, plan testing and maintenance. Most large, geographically dispersed organizations have one or more independent initiatives addressing BC needs within their respective areas. These efforts are most notably originated within the IT organization, and it is frequently the project manager role that recognizes the opportunity to create a central infrastructure and a program to ensure comprehensive application of Business Continuity. This opportunity often presents itself as projects are being planned or risk assessments are conducted. The PM appreciates the need to coordinate requirements and efforts across organizational boundaries, achieving company-wide benefit from the BC investments.

The question then becomes 'How can this opportunity be presented and sold to company executives?' In this presentation, participants will hear about the fundamentals of Enterprise Business Continuity, and learn how to 'set the stage' and define the business case for company executive's endorsement of BC.
