Kaiser Permanente Launches a National BCP/DR Program
Skip I. Skivington (Kaiser Permanente)
Scott Ream (Virtual Corp)

300 Level — Learn how Kaiser Permanente, the largest Health Maintenance Organization in the country with 90,000 employees, over 11,000 physicians, and 29 medical centers in nine states and the District of Columbia, evolved their BCP to the next step following the Y2K rollover. Their goal has been to create a formal and sustainable BCP that accounts for any changes in the people, processes, or other resources required by Kaiser Permanente's critical healthcare delivery functions. Kaiser's National Director of BCP, Skip I. Skivington and the Governance Council partnered with Virtual Corp. to establish two critical infrastructure pieces: the actual BCP process and the core staff necessary to develop and maintain the plans. This partnership resulted in an innovative system of brainstorming and analysis, including a rapid-results enterprise intuitive BIA. Virtual Corp. brought an extensive library of materials which accelerated the speed with which Kaiser developed the program vision, staffing model, three-year implementation plan and budget, methodology workbook and other training materials.
